This software gives AMD Ryzen CPUs the kick they need to reach 5 GHz.

AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs are getting excruciatingly close to a major clock speed milestone: the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X is the fastest, capable of pushing one or two cores up to 4.9GHz, but (officially) no higher than that at stock speed. But what if I told you that 5 GHz is within reach, and you need to do almost nothing to achieve it? That's what Yuri Bubliy, developer of ClockTuner for Ryzen, promises in the next update of the CPU tuning app.

ClockTuner for Ryzen is an automatic overclocking application that first appeared last year for Zen 2 CPUs. The application identifies which core complexes of a Ryzen CPU are prime candidates for overclocking and applies a profile of adjustments and changes that improve performance while balancing temperature and voltage requirements.

Version 2.1, currently in beta and available to Bubliy's Patreon subscribers prior to full release, will also allow new hybrid OC settings to be applied to Zen 3 chips. [With this new profile, AMD's latest high-end Ryzen processors will reach an effective frequency of over 5GHz at a lower voltage of 1.45V compared to the standard 1.475V, Bubliy says.

How it does so depends on the processor it owns and how many cores it has, but it provides between two and six "best" cores that are optimal for juicing. The application then sets the frequency on all of these cores and runs the remaining cores at a reduced speed for more stability.

For more details, please see the slides posted by Bubliy in the following tweet, but in brief, constant measurement of power and temperature data with effective on-the-fly profile switching ensures that the processor always runs at optimal speed for a given workload Ensure that the processor always operates at optimal speed for a given workload.

The update also includes changes to the application's UI to make it easier for novice users to get started.

Overall, this is promising software for AMD Ryzen CPU owners and something to consider if you are still waiting for the opportunity to purchase one. The overclocking performance of the latest Zen 3 chips is not that high, so a system that can take care of all the overclocking that is claimed to be so effective could be a useful option.

Bubliy has not yet announced a public release date, so wait for a full release in the near future or sign up for their Patreon for early access and development assistance The current version of ClockTuner for Ryzen can be downloaded here. It also supports Zen 3, but does not yet offer all the features mentioned above.
