General
PlayStation-inspired Dinoslay FPS as it was in 1998.

"Compound Fracture," announced by developer Austin Schaeffer on Twitter, is an upcoming FPS where you fight low-poly dinosaurs. It is part of a new wave of indie games inspired by the unique aesthetic and rendering techniques of the original PlayStation, right down to the aspect ratio of square 4:3, with the option to disable this.

"Compound Fracture is an action, survival, and horror game. Quick reflexes are required to neutralize the prehistoric threats that await around every corner. Leave your fears behind, gather your supplies, and get to work." The blurb also promises distinctive enemy types, oppressive environments, and a variety of weapons and upgrades for fighting dinosaurs.

"Dino Crisis" immediately comes to mind, but this early footage reminds me of a great horror FPS, Argonaut's "Alien: Resurrection" (based on the awful movie), released for PlayStation in 2000. Many games have explored the PSX aesthetic, but never quite reached that level. Compound Fracture, on the other hand, goes beyond texture warping and dithering and replicates it perfectly. It's the kind of environment Capcom created in the late 90s.

A release date for Compound Fracture has not yet been set. Only "coming soon," the developer has stated so far. However, if you like the look of the game, you can put it on your wish list on Steam, and if you want to keep up with development updates, you can follow Schaeffer on Twitter. Keep your eyes peeled for more.
