As we have seen in recent months, Acer and Walmart have teamed up to offer a line of relatively affordable Gateway-branded gaming laptops that punch above their price class. Such is the case with this Gateway Creator series configuration, which sells for $599.

For those unfamiliar with Gateway, the company was a pioneer in selling PCs directly to consumers in the 1980s, easily identifiable by the iconic cow graphic on the box the PCs were shipped in. 2007, Acer acquired the company Gateway existed as its own corporate entity until 2007, when Acer acquired the company.

A brief history lesson aside, this Gateway-branded laptop has a fast 15.6" display with a resolution of 1920x1080 and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

It is powered by a 6-core/12-thread AMD Ryzen 5 4600H processor clocked at 3GHz (base) to 4GHz (boost), 8MB of L3 cache, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPU. This is a respectable foundation, although it is underpowered to take full advantage of the 120 Hz refresh rate in heavily loaded games (especially in lightweight esports titles, where it can run faster than 60 fps in some cases).

It also comes with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, neither of which are particularly exciting (if not unexpected at this price).

If you're looking for an affordable gaming laptop that packs a bit more punch, check out Gateway's other model, which sells for $799 (down from $999). This model combines an Intel Core i5 10300H processor (4C/8T, 2.5GHz-4.5GHz, 8MB L3 cache) with a more powerful GeForce RTX 2060 GPU for faster frame rates and enables ray-traced visual processing in supported games and enable raytraced visual processing in supported games.
