The developer was banned from Steam for displaying "Very Positive" on Steam.

When you open a game's Steam page, do you instinctively glance at its review rating? If so, you're like a developer who tried to deceive you by naming their studio "Very Positive."

This deception was first discovered by GameDiscoverCo's newsletter. Taking advantage of the fact that the review summary and developer/publisher columns were in the same blue font, the creators of "Emoji Evolution" came up with a shameless plan to trick potential buyers into thinking they had stumbled upon a popular hit.

The anonymous creator explained in an email to Vice reporter Patrick Klepek: "I knew that reviews have a huge impact on a customer's decision. I noticed that the publisher/developer's name was very close to the review and in the same color, so I decided to use it for my own purposes."

As word of this ploy spread, the developer quite boldly declared that he did not expect any major problems on Steam. What happened next is not hard to imagine.

In a follow-up to the ban, the developer tweeted that they had just released a "really bad game" and lightly jabbed at CD Projekt Red for the same offense.

Before being Binned, Emoji Evolution had a "Mostly Positive" rating, but GameDiscoverCo believes that there may have been some manipulation in the actual review of the game. The game gained 7,900 Steam followers in December and attracted the attention of newsletters.
