Final Fantasy 14 expansion could last another five years.

The next expansion of Final Fantasy 14, Endwalker, will bring the decade-long story of the game to a close. But rather than the end of Square Enix's hugely popular MMO, director Naoki Yoshida believes that Eorzea should have at least five more years of new stories to tell.

Speaking to the Washington Post, Yoshida said that Square Enix could happily continue "Final Fantasy 14" for another half century, assuming the current audience.

"Even today, our CEO encourages us to strive for more players and 30 million adventurers. Fortunately, our momentum never stops. At one point we thought we might plateau, but fortunately our player base continues to expand and grow."

"Endwalker," which will be released later this year, will include a new healing class, the Sage, an unannounced DPS class, player-run farms, and the ability to visit friends in other data centers. However, while the post-release patch will often follow up on the expansion's storyline, the endwalker, and the entire Hidaerin vs. Zodiak storyline, will end with 6.0 and begin an entirely new storyline with 6.1.

Yoshida also discussed the team's story writing process. These notes will be sent to the combat designers, who will plan dungeons and raids. Although Yoshida said that he was not satisfied with how the two fit together until the end of Stormblood,

he said that the team was not satisfied with the way the two were put together.

In an interview with Fanbyte, Yoshida also revealed that fan-favorite main scenario designer Natsuko Ishikawa will return as lead writer for Endwalker. Regarding the map for the story's final expansion, he also explained that Endwalker will visit "many areas that were introduced by name in the story but were never visited by players," including Garlemald and Tavnailles.
