Counter-Strike: Fixed a bug that gave players wrong footsteps in Global Offensive

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has received an update that fixes various minor bugs. Footsteps, an important element of the game, would vary depending on the surface you were walking on. This is because certain surfaces were found to resonate in the wrong way when heavy weapons were placed near them.

This bug had apparently been circulating for some time, although the exact date is not known. Perhaps Valve noticed it in a video, ironically titled "The Idiot and the Footsteps," which was recently discussed and voted on by many in the CS: GO subreddit. It is an audio demonstration of the wrong kind of footsteps appearing on certain surfaces of a popular map.

So I finally figured it out. That the player who killed me from heaven in Nuke is a cheating hacker. The exploit is occurring not only in Nuke, but in various locations in Train, Inferno, and Mirage, contrasting offline sounds (as they should be) with online matchmaking and third-party server sounds. The patch notes state only that "fixed a bug that was causing incorrect footstep sounds to be played on some surfaces."

Apart from the various community map tweaks, the other significant change is the ping system. This issue has not been exactly fixed, but for now Ping no longer highlights enemies.

Valve has picked up the pace of updates to CS: GO, and the Valorant competition has seen the two games get closer with each patch. Other recent major changes include the removal of bots from competitive play, while on the competitive scene, the big news is that retaliation for last year's coaching scandal has begun.
