Hearthstone's next expansion is Forged in the Barrens.

A teaser for Hearthstone's upcoming expansion suggested that we should expect something race-focused, featuring orcs and kilboars and delving into old Warcraft lore. Today at BlizzCon, Blizzard unveiled a new set called Forged in the Barrens.

It's set in Kalimdor, where the Horde's heroes embark on their first adventure, and if you remember the Barrens chat in "World of Warcraft" filled with confused people asking "Where is Mankrik's wife?" or Orc Quest giver returned and the answer was, "She's somewhere in your deck.

As per tradition, the new expansion introduces a new keyword: Frenzy triggers when a minion takes damage and survives. Speaking to PC Gamer about the new expansion, game director Ben Lee said of Frenzy: "It's a little bit like the Enrage mechanic. It's a very Horde-like mechanic, and Forged in the Barrens has a lot of Horde identity in it.

"As you know, orcs going berserk and dealing heavy damage is their modus operandi in Warcraft. This keyword leans into that quite a bit in terms of how it works. As a team, one of the reasons we are leaning towards this type of trigger once mechanic (Spellburst being one example) is that it is honestly easier to balance and creates a better experience.

Forged in the Barrens also features 10 cards representing legendary mercenaries to be recruited, and apparently these brand new characters will have their own stories to be told over the course of the year-long narrative.

The release of this expansion also coincides with the beginning of Hearthstone's Griffon Year and its accompanying annual set rotation. This year will be slightly different, as players will receive a new core set of 235 cards to replace the current Classic and Basic sets.

"The Forge of the Wasteland" has 135 new cards, some of which can be seen in detail here.

As for Manclik's wife, she finally showed up 16 years later. In the "Shadowland" expansion.
