Accelerate your storage with a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD for only $145

Amazon offers the Sabrent Rocket 1TB SSD with NVMe Gen4 interface for $144.48, a $25 savings over the regular sale price. This could allow for a read speed of nearly 5,000 MB/sec.

This depends on a number of factors, including the type of data being shuffled and, more importantly, which platform this drive is installed on. To take full advantage of the speed performance of this drive, an AMD Ryzen 5000 (Zen 3) or Ryzen 3000 (Zen 2) series CPU and an X570 or B550 motherboard are required.

Motherboards based on Intel's Z590 chipset will also support PCIe 4.0 when paired with an upcoming Socket Lake CPU.

Even without PCIe 4.0 support, it remains a fast drive, but on the right platform it will show its true value, with Sabrent evaluating sequential read performance up to 5,000 MB/sec and sequential write performance up to 4,400 MB/sec Sequential read performance reaches up to 5,000MB/s and sequential write performance up to 4,400MB/s. In our field testing, the 2TB model achieved up to 5,262MB/s in ATTO's read test and 4,185MB/s in the same benchmark's write test. [The price is very attractive for a PCIe 4.0 model. Moving forward, though, vendors appear to be starting to drop prices on initial lots of PCIe 4.0 SSDs as the latest models with upgraded controllers are approaching bus saturation with data transfer rates exceeding 7,000MB/sec. For example, WD's Black SN850 is one of the best gaming SSDs, boasting 7,000MB/s read and 5,300MB/s write, priced at $229.99 for the 1TB model.

These early PCIe 4.0 models are still incredibly fast. However, this could change now that the PS5 and Xbox Series X have PCIe 4.0 SSDs and Microsoft has released its DirectStorage API for Windows.

Sabrent's 2TB Rocket is also on sale at Amazon for $297.48 (down from $349.99).
