Doom Eternal director "pondered" adding a female slayer.

Doomslayers can transform into a variety of forms in Doom Eternal. From the classic Doom Guy, Mallet Slayer, Doom Cone, Nightmare, to Purple Pony. However, there is one thing that the Doomslayer has never turned into a woman.

That may change someday. In a recent stream, game director Hugo Martin said he thought about how best to incorporate a female slayer into the series.

"I actually thought about it. If I were to do it, I'd want it to be lethal," Martin said. 'The type of weapons she has, the way she fights, certainly aggressive, but a different type of aggression. I'm really trying to make a meaningful impact on gameplay. I've put a lot of thought into that. [If a slayer is a Ferrari, what about a female slayer? What about a medieval slayer? How would that affect it? What analogies can we draw from that and how can it affect the experience ....... Would definitely be cool."

This automotive analogy may seem a bit odd on the surface, but it is one Martin has made before: in a 2018 interview with PCGamesN, he said, "You can drive a Ferrari down the highway at 70 mph and it's fun. If you drive a circuit at 200 mph, that's a lot of fun, too."

He used a similar metaphor in his review of Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods-Part One, describing the experience as "like waking up at the wheel of a Ferrari going 200 miles per hour on a circuit." It is exactly as amazing and exhilarating as it sounds". In case you're wondering, that's a good thing: we rated it 89% and called it "id Software's masterstroke."

Adding a new slayer is not likely to happen anytime soon, but the idea is at least on the radar. And it's not too much of a stretch scenario to make it happen: while I'm not too wedded to the notion of legitimacy in "Doom" games, in the "Quake 3: Arena" fiction, the trainer of the Marine-era "Doomslayer" is a woman, " Crash," it is worth noting that the trainer of the "Doomslayer" during his time in the Marine Corps was a woman.

Thanks, VGC.
