General
If the game does not display properly, try this optional Windows 10 update.

While we wait for Microsoft's big Sun Valley Windows 10 Update later this year, Microsoft is once again offering an optional "preview" of the next cumulative update. This will be delivered on the second Tuesday of next month (aka Patch Tuesday). The preview release (KB4601382) removes over 40 bugs, including "an issue with screen rendering after opening a game on certain hardware configurations."

Microsoft does not go into further detail about this particular bug fix, but if you are experiencing any rendering issues when launching a game (colors are off, screen flickering, slower performance than expected), this optional update It is worth a try.

This update also addresses other display issues. According to the release notes, a bug has been fixed that caused the Advanced Display Settings to display incorrect refresh rates for monitors that support HDR. There is also a bug that caused video to flicker on low-latency monitors, which will also be addressed in this cumulative update.

Other highlights include:

This is by no means a complete list of fixes, just those that Microsoft has deemed of most concern: memory leaks in Internet Explorer 11 (remember IE?), OpenGL-dependent CAD applications not opening, blue screen errors at startup, etc., are just a few of the problems this patch attempts to solve.

All of the same fixes will be incorporated into the upcoming Patch Tuesday update, which will also include security updates and perhaps general improvements.

If you want to get a head start on Patch Tuesday, just head to Settings > Update and hit the Security and Update check buttons. If an optional update is available, you should see it below, as shown in the screenshot at the top of the article.
