Elite Dangerous Odyssey can't let go of its weapons.

You can't let go of your firearms in Elite Dangerous: A heavily armed frontier Q&A explained this week.

One of Odyssey's big selling points is that you can not only get off the ship and stretch your legs, but also shoot all kinds of bandits and law enforcement in thousands of dusty extraterrestrial cities. For that, you will never be unarmed.

"Every player has a sidearm to aid in combat, with the Sidewinder always available as a ship," Frontier explained.

The Q&A generally covers the essentials for understanding first-person blasting in Odyssey. There is a wide range of weapons that can be obtained and modified, "from pistols, rifles, and SMGs to shotguns and rocket launchers. You can deposit ammunition and items with other players, and although there are no dedicated melee weapons, you can hit people with the butt of your rifle.

Frontier has already explained that they want a "sphere of combat" that includes combat on foot, SRVs, and spaceships. This week's Q&A goes a bit further, and it appears that rockets and grenades will be able to do a lot of damage to unshielded ships.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will be released later this spring following a closed alpha earlier this season, and while this isn't the first time Elite has created Planetfall, the developer recently revealed that billions of traversable planets for Odyssey delved deeper into how they are reconstructing them.
