Ultoku's Magic Mutant Tactic: Desolate Combo Attack

A group of magical mutants and evil crawling through the desolate ruins of Urtuk: you command one of them. This turn-based tactical RPG is somewhere between Battle Brothers and Darkest Dungeon, with a great basic design. As Urtuk, an escaped experimental mutant, you lead a band of other mutants across the vast wastes in search of a cure for your slowly degenerating condition. As time goes on, your mutation worsens. If you die, you start over in true rogue-lite fashion.

It's a fun game where you push, shove, and move your enemies around on a fairly dynamic battlefield. There is also a lot of cooperation between soldiers, as they shield each other, counterattack enemies, and take ranged attacks for combo attacks. Much of the fun comes from these powers, but more so from the mutations you can pick up from enemy body parts and organs, and from figuring out what actions you can take during battle to give your character new powers.

Urtuk's long game can drag on, but it's great for quick bursts of tactical action, exploration, and desperate survival; Urtuk is the work of solo developer David Kaleta, with nice hand-drawn art for both the characters and the world around them Urtuk: The Desolation is available on Steam, GOG, and Itch for $20.
