Deathmatch mode "Resident Evil: Rebirth" open beta next month

Some may argue that a Resident Evil game doesn't need a multiplayer component, but Capcom is going to keep making them anyway. Resident Evil Re:Verse is the latest of these games, and it comes free with Resident Evil Village, just as Resident Evil 3 Resistant came free with Resident Evil 3 Remake. The multiplayer in this latest installment is deathmatch, with the twist that the player who is defeated will transform into a biological weapon and continue to wreak havoc on the map.

Following a closed beta in January, "Resident Evil Re:Verse" will run an open beta from April 7 to April 11, with four to six players, five-minute matches, and series stars Chris and Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine and Ada Wong, among others. During the match, players can pick up virus capsules, which become even more powerful when they are killed and transformed into bioweapons.

It will be interesting to see if Re:Verse fares better than previous multiplayer offerings; Resistance was a promising four-on-one co-op mode that followed the template set by Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th It did not set the world on fire, however. Still, it was better than "Umbrella Corps" and many other attempts.
