Amazon Games Hires "Rainbow Six Siege" Developer for New Studio

Even though Amazon has yet to release a single game (not to mention a free-to-play shooter), it is on a mission to create one, and is looking to hire some big names to do so.

The original brains behind Rainbow Six Siege: production director Luc Bouchard, creative directors Xavier Marchi and Romain Limocq, and brand director Alexandre Remy, Ubisoft Montreal to Amazon as part of a new studio also located in Montreal. This will be the fourth studio under the Amazon Games umbrella, along with Seattle, Orange County, and San Diego.

Marquis said that after eight years working on tactical shooters, the former "Siege" developers were "excited to start with a blank slate and have the creative freedom to create a completely unique experience in the multiplayer scene." From our initial discussions, we felt a real connection with the people at Amazon Games, their approach to gaming, and the vast amount of knowledge, expertise, and technology available to them." We are very humbled and couldn't be more excited to launch a studio with them.

Now, we will have to wait and see if another new studio can turn things around for Amazon. The company's previous attempts to enter the gaming market have been, frankly, rather disastrous. Aside from the tragic release and subsequent cancellation of Crucible, MMO New World has been delayed three times so far.

However, recently appointed Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is optimistic, telling his staff earlier this year, "We haven't had consistent success with AGS yet, but I believe if we work hard, we will."
