Valheim Patch Increases Storage Capacity, Other Afterlife Quality Changes

Another week has passed and a new patch has arrived in the Viking afterlife. This patch is not a major one for Valheim, but like the upcoming Hearth and Home update we are expecting, it contains many fixes, changes, and tweaks.

Among the various (after)life qualities, there was a fix for the "comfort" calculation. There was an issue where a stool or simple bed would override the comfort level of a better item, such as a chair or a higher quality bed. This has been fixed.

Wearing heavy armor would not knock you back as much in combat. Swinging an axe will make it easier to hit multiple enemies. Vikings, rejoice! You now have 24 storage slots in your reinforced chest instead of 18. Yay! Perfect for storing six more of your 2,345,921 spare dwarven eyes.

Monster tweaks are also welcome, with higher trophy drop rates for deathkites and drakes, and wolves that spawn at night no longer despawn, escaping quickly during tames. All boss drops now float, making it easier to collect everything Bonemouth drops if you ice him when he is slumped over in deep water.

Some changes may make certain aspects of Viking life a little more difficult. Campfires, bonfires, and hearths now take damage as they are damaged, so if you set up bonfires as part of a mass culling operation to farm resources, they will need to be repaired from time to time. The same is true if you use the bonfires to defeat Valheim's second boss, the Elder, because they will deteriorate while burning him. A slight delay is also added to the use of hammers, hoes, and tillers, which has some players worried about farming and landscaping, but when I jumped in to try it out, the delay was barely noticeable. Perhaps this is an attempt to prevent constant spamming on crowded servers, which can affect performance. But let's see if it gets adjusted again down the road.

Finally, there was a change in the behavior of the console command. The console is disabled by default, so to enable it, a line must be added to the game's launch properties in Steam.

It's easy to do, just right-click Valheim in the Steam library, select Properties, and at the bottom of the General tab, where it says Launch Options, type -console. (Press F5 in-game to open the console. Instead of using "imacheater" to enable cheats, you must type devcommands.
