Stunning Lighting Update for Euro and American Truck Simulators Now Available

Truckers on two continents, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, have received update 1.40, which brings a complete overhaul of lighting.

The update, announced last week, completely reworks the way headlights and sunlight illuminate your road trips. To facilitate this, the developers went to great lengths to rebuild the game's textures and models.

Of course, PC Gamer's resident trucker, Andy Kelly, took the wheel to provide a nice snapshot of the highway in American Truck Sim.

Evening and night deliveries get properly dark. I especially like the way the setting sun reflects off the hood.

The new lighting works best in inclement weather and adds a level of drama that was always missing in Truck 'em Up. However, Euro Truck Simulator 2's Scottish roadways (which now look rather dated) give even the most boring overcast day a depth that wasn't there before.

I must be on to something good, because I almost got carsick when I quickly got into my PC on the trip to Aberdeen.

Patch 1.40 was applied yesterday to both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. In the latter, besides lighting, the German landscape has been reworked and French locations near the Iberian Peninsula have been added. Both games are currently 75% off on Steam, an unbeatable price for one of the best open-world games on PC.
