Forget Slack, Discord, and Skype, FroggieChat is a top-notch chat client reminiscent of the Nintendo DS's built-in Pictochat.

A "faithful remake" of Pictochat for Windows and Android, FroggieChat is a nostalgic gut-punch from developer StupidPlusPlus that anyone who grew up with the original Nintendo DS will enjoy. The look and feel of that delightful little client has been painstakingly recreated, and several new features have been added, including the addition of drawing colors and a "Suggest" button for generating drawing prompts.

FroggieChat may intentionally only work on local wifi networks, given the limitations of the original Pictochat. However, the number of members in a single chat room is theoretically limited to 65535, and with the magic of virtual networking, smart people will be able to replace traditional chat apps.

FroggieChat is available for free on Itch, but the $1 "Deluxe" edition adds drawing colors and a little crown above your name. The free version is also available for Android via Google Play, but we found the keyboard in the app to be a bit too small for the phone's screen.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to convince Future's upper management to drop Slack and use PC Gamer's FroggieChat lobby.
