Yesterday, a new build of Windows 10 Insider Preview hit the interwebs with some nice new icons to refresh your machine.

Apparently Microsoft has been updating icons throughout Windows 10 since last year, with new icons for Windows Security, Narrator, and Notepad. Speaking of which, the Notepad icon has a different look.

The change in the look of the built-in applications has a new flat look. Gone are the displays where folders are opened and their contents magically float around. Instead, links for things like drives and recycle garbage cans face directly toward you, as opposed to being displayed isometrically.

The style is abstract, but at least the icons are instantly recognizable.

Build 21343 also has other changes, including how the Windows Sandbox and Microsoft Defender Application Guard containers operate, and work on how to better organize administrative and system tools within Windows 10 It has begun. The latest build also includes a number of fixes.

So is all is well? Not quite. As you work your way down the list, you will notice some rather worrisome items in the "Known Issues" section. It's the kind of thing that makes you want to pause this update, at least for a while:

This means that Build 21343 will likely turn your gaming rig into a crashing nightmare and refuse to save your progress. Details on which games are affected are not known, and it is possible that the problem will not occur, but the fact that Microsoft has put this issue at the top of the "Known Issues" section is probably for a good reason.

If you are in the Windows Insider program and wish to stop receiving this build, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Programs and under the "Stop getting preview builds" section, click the gray Press the "See options" button. On the next screen, toggle the switch to On.
