Back 4 Blood" postponed, but open beta to take place this summer

The release of the Left 4 Dead-like co-op shooter "Back 4 Blood," which was scheduled for release this summer, has been delayed. Publisher Warner Bros. announced today that the game will now be released on October 12 instead of June 22 as planned.

"Turtle Rock Studios is working hard to make "Back 4 Blood" the best game possible at launch and the team needs more time to do so," the publisher said on Twitter. As such, "Back 4 Blood" is scheduled to launch on October 12, 2021. Thanks to the community's continued support, we are happy to tell you that we will be hosting an open beta this summer."

At least it's not all bad news: while you won't be able to buy it in the summer, you'll at least be able to play a bit and see how it's finished.

As one might expect from the title, "Back 4 Blood" is a sequel to "Left 4 Dead" except for the name, and as we noted in our December preview, its formula may not actually work as remembered. Warner did not elaborate on the specific reason for the postponement, but it may be that Turtle Rock wants to take a little time to make "B4B" more than "Left 4 Dead 3."

Back 4 Blood is available for pre-purchase on Steam, and you can check back4blood.com for upcoming information.
