[Huge, mysterious worlds, beautiful visuals, engaging combat and activities. But no matter how immersed the player was in survival and exploration, somewhere along the way he or she must have thought:

What the heck is that deer bleating? I mean... What the hell was that?

The deer of Valheim makes what sounds like a whinny, a squeal, and a mournful moan all at once. It's like a depressed donkey blowing a trumpet filled with mashed potatoes. It's a bit baffling. Tut-tut-tut-whoosh. It's hardly the sound of pastoral nature, and it's quite distracting until you finally agree to accept it. 'Oh well. I guess this is what deer sounds like on the tenth plane of the Nordic afterlife."

However, the Realistic Animal Sounds mod is meant to make deer sounds more like real deer. In the modder's words, the mod "changes the deer idle sounds from crazy duck monkeys to actual growls and squeals used by wild deer" and "changes the deer warning sounds from the sound of a rubber chicken being stepped on to an actual recording of a deer blowing its warning snort."

These are very accurate descriptions. The mod also changes the deer mortality sound "from the simultaneous honking of 12 geese through a jet engine to the actual sound of a deer."

I tried this mod and it worked. You probably won't enjoy the realistic deer sounds. Real deer are not very good at making a sound. The deer alarm sounds like a crow being suddenly strangled, the grunts and clicks sound like farts, and the pronouncement of death sounds like a young sheep expressing mild disappointment. The new sound is certainly realistic! No complaints about that. The mods used actual wild animal sounds and squeaks. I don't blame the deer and they do their best to make the sounds they know how to make. In my opinion, deer squeaks are not animals I enjoy listening to.

This mod also improves the sounds of wild boars and wolves, but let's be honest. If you are reading this, you are only here for the deer 100% of the time. You can find this mod at Nexus Mods.
