Call of Duty" reportedly returns to World War II this year.

This year's Call Of Duty, reportedly in development by "COD: WW2" creator Sledgehammer, may return to World War II. This is due to a leak allegedly revealed earlier this month by Call Of Duty fan site Modern Warzone, which Eurogamer has "partially" confirmed.

According to Modern Warzone, the subtitle "Vanguard" will be changed closer to launch, but Eurogamer's sources say that Activision plans to keep the title at launch; Eurogamer also says that the title will be changed to "Vanguard" and that the title will be changed to "Vanguard" at launch, that the Vanguard will be set in "an alternate timeline in which 1945 was not the end of World War II," as reported by Modern Warzone, the source denied. Instead, Eurogamer reports that the game will follow a more traditional World War II setting.

Call of Duty has been in a cycle for some time, with Infinity Ward working on the mainline "Adjective Warfare" titles and Treyarch working on the more quirky "Black Ops" games. Adding Sledgehammer, which has repeatedly released World War II-themed titles, to this rotation seems like a good choice, although it complicates Warzone, the battle royale sideline.

Activision has already confirmed that Warzone will continue through this year's Call Of Duty, and while the integration of Black Ops: Cold War and Warzone was a bit of a chore, integrating 80s firearms and intrigue into a game that already features a prison camp It wasn't that difficult. Moving to the simpler firearms of World War II may be a bit more tricky.
