For the most part, "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" is a loving revival of Bungie's space opera, bringing the entire series to the PC. But in its convenience, it loses some of the charm of the original game's menu. ...... The scenery is grand and gorgeous, with a melancholy orchestral soundtrack by Marty O'Donnell.

Thankfully, the elegantly titled "halome.nu" lets you relive the joys of leaving your Xbox idling in the living room. From Combat Evolved's Halo ring tour to ODST's grumpy soldiers, you can flick through most entries in the pop-up menu, although another menu from Halo 3 and the action-packed front end of the RTS spin-off Halo Wars The lack of a sequel is noticeable.

The site also has a (somewhat crude) depiction of the start screen from last year's demo of Halo Infinite. Given that the game was significantly delayed after that controversial presentation due to major reworking, it is quite possible that the main menu of the finished game will look completely different.

Will this scene hold up until the launch of Infinite later this year? Or will Halome.nu be added anew and this version left as a time capsule of "what could have been" ...... Ideally, one would listen to the SF choral music while drifting over the ruins of New Mombasa.
