Yakuza: The Dragon's Dogma returns to SteamDB

Update: It took a while, but SteamDB has finally been able to sort out its relationship with Sega: s listing in the database has resumed.

"Earlier this week, one of our games was incorrectly flagged on SteamDB," Sega said in a statement. 'We use anti-piracy software to protect our games on a large scale, but sometimes we make mistakes. Sega will continue to fine-tune these systems to ensure this does not happen in the future." We thank SteamDB for working with us to resolve the issue quickly.

Original story

The Steam Database (SteamDB) is a third-party tool that provides information on everything about games on Steam, from developer information and player counts to release dates and modification times, update history, and configuration details. on Steam SteamDB can tell you almost anything you want to know about a game.

Unless the game is a 'yakuza': as of very recent times, there is no regular SteamDB page. Instead, there is a message that says "This page has been removed because Sega claims we are distributing their game here," and a link to a series of tweets that further explain the situation.

"Can anyone help me get in touch with Sega? Their lawyers are trying to squash the Yakuza: Like a Dragon's SteamDB page claims that we are distributing the game; Pavel Djundik, the creator of SteamDB, says, "They did not respond to our initial abuse report and sent a new report to our hosting provider. I removed the page because they did not respond to the initial abuse report and sent a new report to our hoster," he wrote.

"SteamDB does not support piracy, does not offer downloads, does not sell keys, and does not link to any websites that engage in these activities.

SteamDB's FAQ page emphasizes the same, stating, "We only embed the official Steam widget for purchasing games. Whenever possible, we link to the official Steam store. All image assets are linked directly from the Steam content distribution network."

According to Djundik, this is not the first time this has happened, but in previous cases it has been withdrawn after SteamDB contacted the sender. In this case, that was not possible.

"They initially sent a removal notice (with only the URL in question and the sentence 'original work'):" Sega saidhttps://sega.com/games.")にある著作権で保護されたソフトウェアとゲームプログラムを3月12日にCloudFlareに作成し、19日にホストによって私たちに転送されました。

"We replied to the email address we sent to Cloudflare asking for an explanation (since this is a very generic sentence), and then they sent the game back to us, explained that SteamDB does not actually sell games or offer downloads. Apparently they ignored this email. Because today a longer and more serious DMCA notice was sent directly to our host."

Unfortunately, Yakuza: Like a Dragon will disappear from this site until Djundik or SteamDB co-creator Martin Benjamins can contact Sega. We are in no position to do anything about it other than try to get in touch with someone at Sega," he said. We are a hobby project that two people are doing in their spare time, and we don't have the resources/energy/time to fight or even discuss this," he said.

The good news is the "yakuza": such takedown requests from publishers will be even more (or even more widespread) in the future: "From my experience with dmcas so far, it is almost always the case that brand protection will be given to anyone without even seeing the site. It boils down to firing dmcas," Djundik said.

Somewhat ironically, earlier today, Sega was named the top publisher in Metacritic's 2020 publisher rankings thanks to games like "Persona 4 Golden," "Football Manager 2021," and you guessed it, "Yakuza: Like a Dragon" (83 ). A Sega representative said the company's legal team is currently investigating the situation.
