Activision Blizzard Appoints Former Trump Official as Chief Administration Officer

This article has been updated to include a statement from Activision Blizzard.

Activision Blizzard has appointed Trump administration member Brian Bratao as chief administrative officer and hired another Republican alumnus to its leadership team.

Earlier this week, the publisher announced the promotion of Armin Zelaza to chief financial officer (via BusinessWire). However, Bratao, who joined Activision after serving under U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, did so without much fanfare. [Brian] is a rare talent and a perfect fit for Activision Blizzard. His unparalleled combination of business, military, and government experience makes him ideally suited to accelerate our organizational transformation and realize the tremendous opportunities for future growth," Activision CEO Bobby Kotick wrote in an email.

Bratao's hiring comes just weeks after Activision appointed Francis F. Townsend, a Bush-era counterterrorism advisor who notoriously defended the CIA's use of torture, as chief compliance officer, according to BusinessInsider's State Department Management report described Bratao himself as a "bully" and "Mike Pompeo's attack dog."

The report also described Bratao as a "bully" and "Mike Pompeo's attack dog.

Cotick's emails reportedly describe Bratao's role in "leading the State Department's talent, diversity, and inclusion efforts," despite the Trump administration's freeze on the effort in an executive order last September.

Bratao's role at Activision gives him control over company-wide "corporate social responsibility" activities, as well as the Call Of Duty Endowment charity, a publisher for veterans.

In a statement to PC Gamer, an Activision spokesperson said of the hire: "Brian's unparalleled success in the business world and his distinguished career as an infantry captain in the U.S. Army will allow him to lead our organization for future growth, He is the perfect addition to our leadership team. We believe in honoring the legacy and extraordinary sacrifice of our veterans and recognize and appreciate the expertise and rigor they bring to everything they do."[15
