Ninja Gaiden Black will not be remastered.

The "Ninja Gaiden" series will make its first appearance on the PC this June with the "Ninja Gaiden Master Collection," which includes "Ninja Gaiden Sigma," "Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2," and "Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge." However, Ninja Gaiden Black, regarded as the best in the series, is conspicuous by its absence.

In an interview with Polygon, producer Fumihiko Yasuda revealed that one of the reasons Ninja Gaiden Black is nowhere to be found is that many of the early Ninja Gaidens were not preserved and have since been lost to the ether.

"The remaining data from Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2 are in various pieces that cannot be salvaged," Yasuda said. But in creating 'Sigma' and 'Sigma 2,' we collected and organized as much of that data as possible. And we chose the Sigma game because we were able to utilize this data."

Yasuda also basically confirmed that the remastered "Sigma 2" would not return to the anarchic limb-flying blood fest of the original "Ninja Gaiden 2," but would stick to the "blood" of the purple smoke, and that "the content will be similar to the original 'Sigma,' 'Sigma 2' and 'Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.' will be similar."

Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection will be released on Steam on June 10. The collection will run at 60fps and 4K on PC, but unfortunately the online mode will be almost completely removed. Tag team missions will return, but in single-player format, with "some of the unduly difficult parts" adjusted.
