CD Projekt Acquires Digital Scapes, Support Studio for Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt has announced the acquisition of Digital Scapes, a Canadian development studio founded in 2012 by veterans of BioWare, Radical Entertainment, and Relic that specializes in multiplayer game development. The acquisition solidifies a long-standing collaboration between the two companies that began when CD Projekt brought Digital Scapes on board to develop "Cyberpunk 2077" in October 2018.

"Digital Scapes has put in a great deal of effort throughout the production of 'Cyberpunk 2077,' assisting in the development of the game and optimizing various features," said Pavew Zawodny, CTO and Head of Production at CD Projekt Red. "In addition to contributing to our project, the new team will help us perfect our craft.

The studio will be renamed CD Projekt Red Vancouver and will work on "future projects" together with CD Projekt Red's other operations in Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw. Unfortunately, no word has been given on what that project will be; Digital Scapes' role in Cyberpunk 2077 has never been fully disclosed, but it is assumed to be assisting in the creation of the planned multiplayer component. In a "strategy update" video released after the Digital Scapes acquisition was announced, co-CEO Adam KiciƄski stated that CD Projekt has "decided to rethink"

the multiplayer component.

"We are very excited to be joining a studio that creates incredibly engaging, sprawling experiences like The Witcher trilogy and Cyberpunk 2077. I believe our contributions in the areas of gameplay and technology will make them all the more compelling." [As a Polish-Canadian myself, I find it very rewarding to be a bridge between the Canadian and Polish game development industry. This is a great opportunity for Canadian developers to be involved with CD Projekt Red's great IP, and for CD Projekt Red to leverage Canada's deep talent pool and game production skills."

CD Projekt had previously said that Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer was unlikely to appear until sometime in 2022, but that was before the game's catastrophic launch (especially the console version), and the studio instead focused on fixing The 1.2 patch with over 500 fixes was released yesterday.
