General
Despite the ban, Disco Elysium: Final Cut is now available for PC in Australia.

When it was initially released in 2019, "Disco Elysium" was only available online and therefore had not been submitted for review to Australia's Classification Board (the government agency responsible for regulating films, publications, and games). The final cut expanded version of "Disco Elysium," which was released today, had to be submitted to the Board because it was scheduled for physical release, where it was denied classification. Disco Elysium" depicts drug addiction, and although it does not have a high publicity value, it does provide +1 to athletic and mental status when sped up. According to the Guidelines for the Classification of Computer Games, the "use of illegal or prohibited drugs in connection with incentives or rewards" automatically rejected the classification of the game, meaning that its sale, distribution, public display, advertising, and importation into Australia would be criminal acts.

Games that previously violated the rule, such as "Wasteland 3" and "Fallout 3," were modified to remove similar interactions or more explicitly fictionalize drugs. Since "Disco Elysium" did not, it is surprising that "Disco Elysium" is now available in Australia: "Disco Elysium: The Final Cut" is available in Australia on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.

Those who already own "Disco Elysium" will receive "Final Cut" as a free update. However, given that, for example, "Hotline Miami 2" is not yet available here, we did not expect it to remain on sale.

However, other games that were refused classification in Australia, such as "Katana Zero," "Mother Russia Bleeds," and "Super Blood Hockey," remain available on several digital storefronts. Perhaps "Disco Elysium" will join these and quietly survive, or perhaps it will disappear. It would be best to get it now, just in case.
