Problems at launch of "Outriders" affect cross-play and DX12 performance

If you're having trouble connecting with fellow "Outriders" players on consoles, you're not alone. Square Enix has posted a message on Reddit, urging players not to attempt PC and console cross-play until a fixed version is released.

According to Square's statement, "During preparation of the Day 1 build for PC and consoles, we discovered an asynchrony between the PC and console code. This resulted in a back-end mismatch that caused players to be kicked out of multiplayer games that included both console and PC players.

The post adds: "If you invite a console player to the PC version of the game using an invite code (or vice versa), they will initially connect, but eventually one player will be kicked out of the game. We strongly recommend that you do not do this until all versions of the game have been patched."

In the past 24 hours, many players have reported problems logging into the game. According to a statement from Square Enix, the team is working on a fix as soon as possible." We will let you know about the release as soon as we can." Until then, Steam and Epic players should be able to play together.

While connection issues are common when a new multiplayer game is released due to the sudden surge of interest that accompanies its release, PCs are currently experiencing additional problems, including erratic performance. [Square Enix is "aware that there is an issue with the DX12 implementation and that PC players may encounter stuttering, hard crashes, or shader cache issues due to CPU overload. We are investigating the issue urgently and hope to have it resolved in the near future." There is a list of workarounds in this Reddit post, and official updates on other issues, such as blurry visuals and items falling through the map, can be found in this summary.

These issues have been met with a "mixed" reception on Steam. But if you want to start building your character now, check out the Outrider's Strongest Class Guide.
