Complex roguelike "Caves of Qud" adds non-rogue and exploration modes

The difficulty of the learning curve will no longer be a barrier for those who want to experience the deep, complex, multi-threaded science fantasy history of "Caves of Qud," Freehold Games developer Brian Bucklew announced via Twitter that the upcoming patch will include Roleplay and Wander modes.

Roleplay mode will allow for checkpoint saves in Qud settlements, allowing you to restore to a point in time if you get caught in the cackle of dimensional predators or hyena clans in Qud's wilderness or dungeons.

On the other hand, the Wonder mode also has a checkpoint save, but it changes some of the game behavior. Players become neutral to most creatures that are not inherently aggressive and do not gain XP from killing, but gain more XP from discovering the world. Players can also gain more XP by performing water rituals: "Live and drink, my friends."

These are in contrast to the classic mode, where upon death you lose your character and have to start over from the beginning. Frankly, this is a pretty good idea. Once you learn about the world in Roleplay and Wander, you will probably want to experiment with a wide variety of character builds. Like having 12 arms. You may want to go back to Classic mode for that.

Don't add more arms. You should already have many of them.
