The excellent open-world adventure game "Horizon Zero Dawn" is on sale this week, offering 60-70 hours of robotic dinosaur hunting for $30/£24 on Steam, GOG and Epic Store.

The world has been overrun by killer machines, and humanity lives in tribes that loot armor and weapons from advanced robotic creatures. The result is a colorful, gorgeous, post-apocalyptic open world. Combat takes some getting used to, but I came to really enjoy blasting away at the giant dinosaur debris. There are also some great arrows that erupt with sonic booms and scatter steel and carbon fiber debris across the desert.

In other respects, HZD is an orthodox open-world game. You traverse the map, pick up mission icons, collect equipment, build more equipment, and stop every 10 minutes to pan around and take in the scenery. Ashley Burch plays the warrior Aloy and Lance Reddick the enigmatic stranger.

The Complete Edition includes the "Frozen Wilds" expansion, which is the largest volume out there. The expansion adds a new region and a self-contained storyline that lets you dismantle new robotic enemies in the snow.Horizon Zero Dawn's reviewers gave the game a healthy 86 points for the entire package.

The discount is scheduled to last until April 12. A sequel is in development, and hopefully a PC version will eventually be released.
