Nvidia's noise reduction feature, previously released as RTX Voice, does a pretty amazing job of removing unwanted background noise from microphones and PC audio. If you don't believe me, watch the video below to see for yourself. While officially limited to RTX graphics cards when it was released almost a year ago, with the latest update Nvidia has opened it up to everyone with a GeForce, Titan, or Quadro GPU.

The latest update to RTX Voice, now called "Noise Removal" in the RTX Broadcast app, allows a wide range of GPU generations to perform this function (nice spot, Tom's Hardware). You will need to get the latest version of the Broadcast app and launch it. Open the app, select the microphone input, and determine how much unwanted background noise to remove.

This is actually not the first time RTX Voice has been included on a non-RTX card. Although there is no official support for it, shortly after its release, it was discovered that a simple code change could enable the RTX Voice feature on non-RTX cards. Testing at the time showed a relatively large performance drop on the RTX 1080 while this feature was enabled.

This potential performance hit is something to be aware of if you are hoping to run the noise reduction feature on an older card and don't have the frame to spare.

If you use AMD or simply want to try another method, Discord offers built-in Krisp noise reduction, which is also available as a stand-alone app. In addition to software, there are devices such as the Asus Noise-Cancelling AI Mic Adapter that offer many of the same features in a separate hardware package to reduce the extra processing load from the PC.
