Gigabyte Announces 43" Quantum Dot 4K Gaming Display

At what point does a gaming monitor become a TV? Technically, when it has a built-in TV tuner. Be that as it may, Gigabyte is preparing a 43-inch "high-end" display.

Called the Aorus FV43U, Gigabyte has announced on Facebook (via Videocardz) that this display is "coming soon". When this large-screen display arrives, it will compete with the Asus ROG Strix XG43UQ, which is also a 43-inch monitor.

Gigabyte's social media pages are tight-lipped about details, except that it utilizes quantum dot technology. However, the FV43U is already available for pre-order at retailer Gearshop in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

According to the listing, this 43-inch display has a 4K resolution, a 144 Hz refresh rate, and a fast 1 ms response time. It is also listed as having a 10-bit panel with HDR support and is DisplayHDR 1000 certified, meaning it has a peak brightness of at least 1,000 nits.

These are the same specs as the XG43UQ, a FreeSync premium display with a VA panel and HDMI 2.1 connectivity; it is likely that the FV43U has these same features. If so, it is good to see display manufacturers starting to roll out monitors that support the latest HDMI 2.1 standard. [HDMI 2.1 offers 48 Gbps of uncompressed bandwidth and up to 128 Gbps of compressed bandwidth; HDMI 2.1 not only offers increased bandwidth, but also support for variable refresh rates and an automatic low-latency mode that automatically switches the TV to "game" mode when playing games, It also has some nice features.

Although not actually in stock, the latest GPUs from both AMD (Radeon RX 6000 series) and Nvidia (GeForce RTX 30 series) support HDMI 2.1. The same is true for the latest gaming consoles (Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5).

However, these large-screen high-end gaming monitors are not cheap: the pre-order price for Gigabyte's model is set at VND34,990,000 (about $1,515 in US currency), while Overclockers UK has the XG43UQ for £1,349 (~$1 listed at £1,865 (~$1,865 in US currency).
