Full 4K Remaster of "Time Splitters 2" Hidden in "Homefront": The Revolution

It seems that the hidden TimeSplitters 2 remake of Homefront: The Revolution contained much more than the two levels we already knew about. Unfortunately, the key to access the full game seems to have been lost in a Discord ban several years ago.

The revelation comes courtesy of former Crytek developer Matt Phillips, who responded to a call by former Vlambeer designer JW Nijman for developers to share hidden Easter eggs in their games. Some of them are beautiful, such as the ninja turtle in "The Division" and the giant cheese wheel in "Dragon Age 2.

However, as Eurogamer discovered, Phillips responded back suggesting that Homefront's return to "TimeSplitters" was intended to be played in native 4K.

Full feature also really meant full functionality: "We ported the network stack to ride on top of HF:TR's co-op mode; we ported the network stack to ride on top of HF:TR's co-op mode. If someone could hack two or more arcades into one of the co-op maps, it would activate the multiplayer menu.

Trying to find the access codes is futile. Even Phillips doesn't write them down anymore. The developer gave it to a friend once, but apparently the suggestion that "Homefront" contains everything from "TimeSplitters 2" was so incredible that the Discord server banned their account.

"The unlock code was lost over time. I once gave it to a friend to leak on one of the Discord channels, and they called him a liar and banned his account."

Given that THQ Nordic has no plans to remaster the 2002 classic, it's a shame, too. But if you're looking for a "Time Splitters" fix, the fan-developed throwback mod "Time Splitters Rewind" is still quietly ticking away, aiming to modernize all three original games.

Now that it's out in the open, let's hope some enterprising hacker will finally unlock the 4K remaster we deserve, hidden inside "Homefront."
