Diablo 2: Resurrection Single Player Test, This Weekend

"Diablo 2: Resurrected," Blizzard's remaster of the classic action RPG of yesteryear, will be playable for a very lucky few PC gamers this weekend, as Blizzard today announced that a single-player "technical alpha test" will begin on April 9 Friday, April 9 at 7:00 a.m. ET (10:00 a.m. PT) and will run through Friday, April 12 at 10:00 a.m. ET (1:00 p.m. PT). [The technical test will allow players to play three of Diablo 2's seven classes (Barbarian, Amazon, and Sorceress) and the first two acts of the game (each ending with a showdown with a big bad boss): Andariel, the damsel in distress who resides in a rogue monastery, and Lut Gorain the Duriel, the Lord of Pain, who awaits in the desert. The good news for the grinders is that there is no level cap.

Access to the test will be randomly selected from players who opt-in at blizzard.com, and Blizzard warns that since the entire alpha version is a work in progress, you may encounter the occasional glitch or slight quirk, but based on your experience "we warns that "any and all feedback" is welcome. He also said that this test is only single-player, but that multiplayer testing will take place later this year.

Announced in February, "Diablo 2: Resurrection" will be a dramatically enhanced version of the 2000 original, with support for 4K resolution, fully physics-based 3D rendering, reworked cut scenes, fully remastered audio, and numerous quality-of-life changes Blizzard's Rod Fergusson has previously emphasized that the game is "not a remake" and will feature "the same core gameplay, the same story and tone, even the same actors' voices."

More details on the alpha test of Diablo 2: Resurrected can be found here. A release date for the full game has not yet been set, but it is currently expected to be released sometime in 2021.
