There is a small chance that you can purchase a new AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card today. But only if you really, really like the AMD brand, can prove it by your actions, and are a dedicated member of the Red Team community. A recent email shared with Videocardz tells us that the new "Midnight Black edition" of the RX 6800 XT will be available today, April 7, at 6am PST, 9am EST, and 2pm BST.

It is identical to the standard reference version of the RX 6800 XT, but instead of a silver band wrapped around the middle of the chunky shroud, it is sprayed black. Otherwise, it remains a Navi 21-powered gaming powerhouse and one of the finest graphics cards released in the modern era, with 4,608 RDNA 2 cores built in and 16GB GDDR6 supporting advanced 7nm GPU silicon.

Whether the "Midnight Black" reference design will be an extension of AMD's own RX 6800 series cards remains to be seen; when the decision was made in December to continue manufacturing the reference version, it was phased out in favor of third-party versions. It is possible that they chose to change the color scheme rather than phase it out, or that changes in the supply chain forced them to do so.

In any case, this new RX 6800 XT "Midnight Black edition" will not be available in large quantities today and may only be available to cardholders in the Red Team community who have received advance notice and specific links.

This means that although the new GPU lot appeared on AMD.com this morning, by the time the "Midnight Black Edition" actually hits the traditional store pages of AMD-owned stores, it will likely be out of stock.
